Prominent Christian cleric and political mobiliser, Prophet Isa El-Buba, has endorsed the presidential ambition of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, declaring that Nigeria needs a new political direction to overcome its longstanding development challenges.
El-Buba made his position known at the public presentation of Adebayo’s 2027–2031 presidential blueprint, titled “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity: Governance and Accelerated Development — Blueprint of a New Nigeria”.
The cleric said his decision to support Adebayo followed a careful study of the candidate and the policy document, which he described as offering practical proposals for addressing some of the country’s major challenges.
According to El-Buba, he spent the night before the presentation studying the blueprint and became convinced that its proposals could provide a pathway towards rebuilding the country.
“If there is one person that is going to really, really fix Nigeria as we desire, it is Prince Adewole,” he said.
He argued that Nigeria was endowed with abundant human and natural resources but had struggled to effectively organise and deploy them for the benefit of its citizens.
El-Buba particularly commended the blueprint’s emphasis on measurable improvements in citizens’ living conditions, rather than evaluating government solely on speeches, promises or the number of projects announced.
He highlighted its focus on security, food, water, energy, healthcare, education, housing, employment, justice and digital access as interconnected areas necessary for building a productive society.
The cleric also praised Adebayo’s economic vision, which he said sought to move Nigeria towards greater self-reliance and sustainable prosperity.
He expressed confidence in Adebayo’s running mate, Professor Abduljalil Tafawa Balewa Bugaje, whom he said he had worked closely with and considered capable of contributing to the leadership of the country.
Recalling his involvement in political mobilisation ahead of the 2023 elections through the Coalition for Better and Brighter Nigeria (CBBN), El-Buba said a similar grassroots mobilisation could be expanded ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He stressed that the present political situation required concrete action rather than speeches.
“It is no longer speeches; it’s action time,” he said.
El-Buba announced plans to begin mobilising his network, starting from Kano and extending to states in the North-Central region.
He challenged Adebayo’s supporters to mobilise at least 100 people each within their respective communities and networks, saying a coordinated grassroots campaign could strengthen the SDP’s chances in 2027.
The cleric also urged the SDP leadership to identify credible Nigerians with strong community support who may not have the financial resources traditionally associated with electoral contests.
He said candidates should be selected based on integrity, competence and character rather than financial capacity.
El-Buba further urged the SDP to demonstrate that it had evolved from its past identity and was now committed to credibility and competence.
“It is time we present to Nigeria that SDP is no longer the SDP of yesterday. The present SDP is the SDP of credibility, competence and character,” he said
He expressed optimism that the party could mobilise at least 15 million Nigerians behind the Adebayo-Bugaje ticket before November, describing the target as part of a broader effort to promote political change.
El-Buba also appealed to Nigerians to participate actively in the political process and avoid allowing immediate personal benefits to determine their choices.
“Let us be honest men and women who will not be induced by what we can get, but by what we can do and what we can deliver for the saving of the soul of Nigeria,” he said.
He concluded by urging citizens to move beyond complaints and become actively involved in efforts to shape the country’s political future.
“Nigeria must be saved, and now is the time to get Nigeria saved,” El-Buba declared.
