2027: I have no candidate yet, won’t support APC — Davido

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he currently has no preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, firmly ruling out any alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Speaking during an interview on News Central TV on Tuesday, the music icon addressed whether he would maintain his active political involvement during the upcoming 2027 presidential contest.

Responding to questions about political endorsements and addressing his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke’s declaration of support for President Bola Tinubu, Davido clarified that his personal political convictions remain independent.

“My uncle, immediately he won, came out to declare his support for Tinubu, but for me, I’m not propelled to support anybody. I personally haven’t seen anybody,” he stated.

Recalling his past political engagements, the artiste noted that while he had previously supported opposition figures and cross-party alignments, his current stance remains uncommitted.

“In the past, yes, I’ve supported Atiku before when we were in PDP, and I supported in 2015 when APC first did the merger; my late uncle Isiaka Adeleke (Serubawon) was part of the APC, I campaigned then,” he said.

He, however, emphasised that his political position ahead of 2027 remains completely open, except for the ruling party.

“Right now I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, but it’s not going to be APC. Everybody should have their choice,” Davido added.

Davido’s comments come amid heightened public attention following his prominent role during the Osun State election cycle, where he mobilised voters and advocated for transparent election results.

PUNCH reports that Davido’s uncle, the re-elected Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has noted that his decision to support Tinubu for a second term in 2027 is based on his belief that the President, as a Yoruba man from the South-West, deserves support to consolidate his reforms and infrastructure projects in the region.
