2027: I’ll Surpass Makinde’s 8-Year Achievements In Four Years – Alli

…unveils ‘Oyo AHEAD’ blueprint

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, has boasted that he would surpass the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde’s eight-year administration within four years if elected in 2027.

Alli made the declaration on Tuesday during the formal unveiling of his manifesto to stakeholders across the state at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, opposite the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where he presented his vision for repositioning Oyo State through purposeful leadership, strategic planning, institutional strengthening and people-oriented governance.

He declared that his proposed government would restore the state’s lost pace-setting status through an ambitious development blueprint tagged ‘Oyo AHEAD’ (Itayo Oyo).

The APC candidate said Oyo State had enormous economic and developmental potential that could be unlocked through deliberate policies, innovative approaches and a government committed to translating available resources into tangible improvements in the lives of residents.

He said his ambition was to build a state where opportunities would be accessible to all, public institutions would be strengthened, and the impact of government policies would be felt across communities, irrespective of their geographical location or socio-economic circumstances.

“Oyo State has enormous potential, but we must be deliberate, innovative and committed to translating that potential into tangible improvements in the lives of our people.

“Our aspiration is to build a state where opportunities are accessible, institutions are strengthened, and development is felt in every community,” he said.

Alli described Oyo AHEAD as more than a campaign slogan, saying it represented a comprehensive development agenda designed around the expectations and aspirations of the people and the urgent need to accelerate the state’s development.

To him, the blueprint is intended to provide practical solutions to the challenges confronting the state, with particular attention to critical sectors of the economy, social development and the welfare of the people.

“Oyo AHEAD is not just a campaign slogan; it represents a development agenda anchored on the people’s expectations and the urgent need to move our state forward. We want an Oyo State that works for everyone, regardless of location, background or economic status,” he said.

Maintaining that sustainable development could not be achieved through isolated interventions, Alli stressed the need for a coordinated development strategy that would strengthen institutions, stimulate productive sectors, expand economic opportunities and ensure inclusive participation in governance.

“Sustainable development cannot be achieved through isolated interventions. We must strengthen our institutions, support productive sectors, create opportunities for our young people and ensure that every segment of society has a stake in the development process,” he said.

Alli said the restoration of Oyo State’s position among Nigeria’s leading states would require purposeful leadership, responsible governance and a development philosophy that places the welfare of residents above other considerations.

“Our ambition is to restore Oyo State’s place among the leading states in Nigeria. This requires purposeful leadership, responsible governance and a development approach that puts the welfare of the people at the centre of every decision. That is the commitment behind Oyo AHEAD,” he said.

The APC governorship candidate also emphasised the importance of carrying stakeholders along in the formulation and implementation of policies, noting that the development of the state must be a collective responsibility rather than the exclusive preserve of government.

Stakeholders at the manifesto unveiling included representatives of the organised private sector, community development associations, farmers, students, artisans, traders, women’s groups and non-indigenes, among others.
