President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to head the Directorate of Air Mobilisation for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 re-election campaign.

Under the arrangement, Keyamo will serve as Director of the Directorate, while the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, will serve as Deputy Director I, and the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, as Deputy Director II.

The appointments underscore the strategic importance of air transportation and aviation logistics to the organisation of a nationwide presidential campaign.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Tunde Moshood.

According to the statement, the Directorate is expected to play a crucial role in coordinating air-movement requirements, facilitating travel arrangements for designated campaign officials and ensuring effective planning for air transportation across the six geopolitical zones.

Given the scale of the 2027 presidential campaign, Moshood stated that the directorate will work closely with other campaign structures to promote seamless coordination, operational efficiency and effective deployment of logistical resources, subject to applicable aviation regulations and electoral laws.

He noted that Keyamo’s appointment brings to the campaign structure the experience of a serving Aviation Minister who has been at the forefront of policy initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector and positioning the country as a major aviation hub in Africa.

“His familiarity with the operational demands of the industry is expected to provide leadership in coordinating the directorate’s activities and establishing an effective framework for air-mobilisation planning,” Moshood said.

He added that the appointment of Kuku and Umar as deputies also brings aviation-sector leadership and technical experience into the directorate, strengthening its capacity to address planning and coordination demands associated with nationwide movements.

Moshood explained that air transportation is a critical component of national campaign logistics, particularly where campaign leaders and officials are required to cover multiple locations within compressed schedules.

“The directorate is therefore expected to support the broader campaign organisation through structured planning, coordination with relevant stakeholders, efficient scheduling and appropriate logistical arrangements,” he said.

He stressed that its effectiveness will depend on collaboration with other directorates, clear operational procedures and strict compliance with aviation safety requirements and extant laws governing political campaigns.

Moshood further noted that the directorate’s activities are expected to maintain a clear distinction between campaign operations and official government functions, ensuring that campaign-related arrangements are undertaken through properly authorised channels.

President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign is being organised through the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which brings together political leaders and designated directorates to coordinate the party’s preparations for the forthcoming general election.
