Adebayo Accuses Tinubu Of Constitutional Breaches

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of failing to adequately fulfil its constitutional responsibilities, describing the President as one of Nigeria’s “Worst” and “most lawless” leaders.

Adebayo made the allegation during a television interview while outlining his proposal for “Cooperative federalism” as an alternative approach to governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The SDP candidate said the primary responsibility of government should be the security and welfare of citizens, arguing that the Tinubu administration had fallen short in addressing poverty, insecurity and other challenges confronting Nigerians.

“President Tinubu is one of the worst in the series of lawless presidents who don’t implement the Constitution, and they don’t implement Section 162 of the Constitution, and they don’t implement the Appropriation Act,” he said.

Adebayo also challenged the argument that increased government revenue necessarily translated into improved economic conditions, saying the purchasing power of citizens should be a key measure of economic performance.

On federalism, he proposed closer cooperation between the Federal Government and state governments in planning and executing development projects, regardless of political differences between the various administrations.

He said his proposed model of cooperative federalism would involve federal and state governments coordinating projects in areas including roads, education, healthcare and agriculture.

“Cooperative federalism means that the time I’m doing my federal road, that’s the same time you are doing your state road, so that they link,” he said.

The SDP candidate also advocated greater coordination among federal, state and local security structures as part of efforts to tackle insecurity.

“The state police, local government police, and the federal police will work together to deal with crime,” he said.

According to him, cooperation between different levels of government should not depend on which political party controls a particular state, but should be based on agreed development targets and the interests of citizens.

Adebayo said his broader policy programme, titled *Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity*, was focused on reducing poverty and insecurity while expanding access to food, housing, education, healthcare and employment.

Speaking on efforts to build cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Adebayo said he was willing to support another presidential candidate if a credible process produced such an outcome.

“Presidency is not an inheritance; it’s an office that every Nigerian can aspire to,” he said.

He added that political actors should be prepared to accept outcomes that serve the national interest rather than regard the presidential ticket as a personal entitlement.
