WAFU B Women's Champions League: Edo Queens ready for Ampem Darkoa showdown
Edo Queens have expressed readiness for the WAFU-B final clash against Ampem Darkoa Ladies, DAILY POST reports.
The encounter is billed for Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, today.
The Nigerian champions said they are focused for the tie against the Ghanaians.
"Focused and ready for tomorrow's WAFU-B final extra time against Ampem Darkoa Ladies. Fighting till the End," Edo Queens wrote on X.
The winner will pick a ticket to the CAF Women's Champions League.
DAILY POST recalls that the two sides first met in the WAFU-B final on September 5 at the 4th August Stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
Edo Queens held their nerve to win the shootout 4-1 and were initially declared WAFU-B champions, celebrating with the trophy and the qualification ticket.
Ampem Darkoa, through the Ghana Football Association, however lodged a formal protest on September 11, arguing that competition regulations required two 15-minute periods of extra time before any penalties in a final.
On September 26, CAF's Organising Committee for Women's Football upheld the protest. The committee cited Articles 13.1 and 72.4 of the CAF Women's Champions League Regulations, which mandate 30 minutes of extra time when a final is level after 90 minutes, and ruled that the direct move to penalties contravened the rules. It annulled the shootout but retained the 2-2 scoreline.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, appealed on behalf of Edo Queens, arguing that the club merely complied with the referee's instruction and should not be punished for an administrative error.
On October 16, CAF's Appeal Board dismissed the appeal and ordered the final to resume from the start of extra time, with new officials at a neutral venue.
