The Allied People’s Movement has commended security agencies and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for their roles in securing the release of the students and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of the state.

APM in a statement by it National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf on Friday expressed relief over the safe return of the victims after weeks of uncertainty, describing the development as a welcome relief to their families, the academic community, and residents of Oyo State.

The pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been released after more than 50 days in captivity.

The development was confirmed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

In a post on his verified X handle, Onanuga said the victims had regained their freedom, while disclosing that eight suspected kidnappers were arrested and several others neutralised during the operation.

Reacting, APM praised the military, police, and local intelligence units for their efforts in ensuring the abductees regained their freedom.

The statement read, “The Allied People’s Movement expresses joy and immense relief over the rescue and release of the schoolchildren and teachers who were abducted on May 15, 2026, in the Orire area of Oyo State.

“This heart-warming development brings an end to weeks of agonising anxiety for the families, the academic community, the government, the people of Oyo State, and well-meaning Nigerians across the country.

“The APM commends the tactical precision, resilience, and synergy demonstrated by our security agencies—including the military, police, and local intelligence units—for their efforts towards ensuring that these innocent citizens were brought back alive.

“We also extend our special commendation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his exemplary leadership, responsiveness, and unrelenting efforts towards the release of the victims and the overall security of the state, especially at this critical time.”

The APM noted that Governor Makinde’s support and cooperation with security agencies played a crucial role in securing the successful release of the victims.

It continued, “While we celebrate this safe return, the APM reminds all stakeholders that the safety of our educational institutions, as well as all our communities and cities, must remain a top priority.

“No Nigerian child or educator should have to pursue knowledge under the shadow of fear. We urge governments at all levels to build on this success by deploying more robust, proactive security measures around schools, particularly in vulnerable communities.

“The APM stands in solidarity with the rescued victims and their families as they begin the vital process of healing and rehabilitation.”
