Associates of the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa who lost out in the last primaries for the selection of candidates for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the two constituencies in Agege have picked the ticket of the opposition Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The move is symbolic considering the fact that APM is the platform upon which Oyo State Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde is seeking to contest the Presidency against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the candidate of the APC.
Obasa on his part is an associate of President Tinubu who connection to each other has spanned almost three decades, the platform upon which he (Obasa) emerged a member of the House of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2003.
It is also based on that fact that Obasa also emerged the Speaker of the Assembly for nine unbroken years and if all goes well, he would have spent 10 years in office by next year when his tenure expires.
Those affected by the defection include a former Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi and another aspirant, Mr. AbdulAzeez Yusuf (popularly known as Ninolowo).
The duo has dumped APC and has moved to APM to realised their House of Assembly dream in many see as major cracks within the APC in Lagos considering the fact that the APM is the party upon which Governor Makinde is seeking to square up against incumbent President Tinubu in January.
Egunjobi and Azeez were House of Assembly aspirants of the APC in the last primaries that produced Hon. Oluwagbenga Abiola and Hon. Enimakure Akindele Sakiru who both emerged as the candidates of the APC for state constituency 1 and 2 respectively.
While Egunjobi emerged as a candidate of APM in substitution primary result scoring 138 votes to become the Candidate of APM for Agege Constituency 01, Yusuf (Ninolowo) emerged as candidate of APM for Agege Constituency 02 in the upcoming elections in 2027 emerging with 11 votes.
When contacted on phone by New Telegraph, Obasa neither denied nor confirmed the story but urged that the affected personalities be contacted for verification of the claims.
“Look for their numbers and find out from them. I am not Ganiyu Egunjobi or am I the other person you mentioned?” he said.
