Bayer Leverkusen Chief Lauds Boniface After Newcastle Wonder Goal

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has showered praise on Victor Boniface after the striker scored a superb goal in the club’s 2-1 friendly victory over Newcastle United.

Boniface came off the bench to grab the winning goal in the keenly contested encounter.

The Nigeria international showed his quality by beating his marker with a clever dummy before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Rolfes was delighted to see the forward find the net in front of a large crowd and praised the quality of his finish.

“He scored a fantastic goal. We’re very happy for Boni that he managed to score in front of such a crowd,” Rolfes told BILD.

“When the opponent blocks like that and then makes that movement inside, that’s quality. And when the opponent doesn’t block, he blasts the ball towards goal with incredible speed.”

Rolfes also believes the goal is an encouraging indication that Boniface is gradually rediscovering the qualities that made him a major threat before his injury problems.

“The fact that he’s capable of those kinds of moves again is a positive development,” he added.

Boniface spent last season on loan at fellow Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.
