Gov Otti To Chair 37-Member Campaign Council
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has inaugurated the Labour Party (LP) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, with himself as the chairman.
Other members include Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu as vice chairman, State Directors, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Agwu U Agwu, as the Director General, DG, Zonal Directors and State Constituency Directors for the 37 member Labour Party campaign council that would run along side the campaign advisory council to be Chaired by former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.
The Governor charged members to make the campaign issue based, violence free and work with party structures and stakeholders at the grassroots to ensure victory for the party.
Otti also directed that all pro-groups of the party, including Abia Arise and the various campaign councils of individual candidates, work together, saying that political campaigns are structured around political parties, as independent candidacy is not yet allowed in Nigeria.
He also urged candidates to constitute their own campaign councils, saying such structures would strengthen the party and help it achieve better results and explained that while the State Campaign Council would provide overall coordination, candidates and grassroots structures must equally take responsibility for mobilising support in their respective areas.
Governor Otti charged the Council to ensure that the 2027 campaign should focus more on issues, achievements and programmes that matter to the people and not like the 2023, which he observed was largely characterised by promises.
The Governor cautioned members against allowing opponents to distract them with propaganda, urging them to remain focused and communicate the party’s message effectively.
He warned against political violence, saying, “If you get involved in Political Violence, you are on Your Own. We have made this place peaceful and open.”
He added that security agencies have been directed to provide a level playing field for all political parties and their candidates to campaign freely without intimidation or violence.
Governor Otti expressed confidence that with effective coordination, grassroots mobilisation, issue-based campaigning and cooperation among members and stakeholders, the Labour Party would achieve better results in the 2027 elections, urging members to return to their wards and LGAs to build effective grassroots structures from the polling units.
Responding on behalf of the newly inaugurated members, the DG, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, assured that the Council would work diligently to meet and exceed expectations, pledging to deploy their collective experience and commitment to secure victory for the Labour Party.
Agwu described the assignment as a call to service for the people of Abia, stressing that the campaign is not about individuals but about consolidating the achievements of the Otti administration and building a stronger future for the State.
