Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp has revealed that Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz are doubtful for Sunday’s match against Greece after both players suffered muscular problems, a Monday release on Germany Football Federation (DFB) website.

The duo underwent MRI scans following Germany’s 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League, with Klopp hoping the injuries are not serious.

“It’s a muscular issue for both of them. They’ve both had MRIs. I hope it’s nothing too serious and the lads will be fit to play again fairly soon.

“They probably won’t be available for Sunday’s match,” Klopp said.

The injuries could force Klopp to reconsider his attacking options ahead of the Greece encounter, with Jonathan Burkardt and Nick Woltemade among the players who could come into contention.

Germany head coach Klopp admitted that his side still have plenty of room for improvement after opening their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

Asked whether either player could be included in the squad, Klopp said, “We’ll wait and see. But it’s clear we need to rethink things – we can, and should be, considering our options.”

Musiala and Havertz featured in Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, which marked Klopp’s first game as head coach of the national team.

According to Sky Sports News on Monday afternoon, Arsenal forward is returning to his club to receive treatment, with the issue understood to be a suspected muscle strain.

Havertz pulled up with the issue after a challenge from Quinten Timber in the first half of Thursday’s 1-1 draw in Amsterdam and had to be substituted for Younes Ebnoutalib.

He has started six of Arsenal’s eight games in all competitions this season, scoring three goals, but his injury, although not thought to be serious, represents the latest in the series of setbacks.

The 27-year-old was limited to only seven Premier League starts last season due to knee and muscle issues. He also missed the final three months of the 2024/25 due to a hamstring tear.
