Obi Accuses Tinubu Of Harassing Supporters
The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called for the immediate release of Rilwan Olawale, alleging continued intimidation and harassment of his supporters across the country.
Obi made the demand in a statement posted on social media, describing Olawale’s arrest as disturbing and unacceptable.
He also accused President Bola Tinubu of undermining Nigeria’s democracy by allegedly encouraging and facilitating violence against political opponents.
“President Bola Tinubu has remained a huge beneficiary of our democracy and should not brazenly be destroying it by encouraging and facilitating violence,” Obi said.

He maintained that his campaign was peaceful and issue-driven, focusing on offering Nigerians an alternative built on competence, accountability, justice and compassion.
He said his supporters had chosen peaceful engagement over violence and persuasion over intimidation, warning that their commitment to civility should not be mistaken for weakness.
“Nobody should mistake our civility for weakness, our restraint for fear, or our commitment to peace for an absence of resolve. We will not be intimidated into silence, nor will we abandon Nigerians who believe in a New Nigeria that is possible and will be OK,” he said.
Obi demanded transparency regarding Olawale’s arrest, his release, respect for his rights and an end to what he described as politically motivated harassment.
He also insisted that Nigerians had the right to support candidates of their choice without intimidation from the government or any political party.
“We will remain peaceful but resolute. We will not resort to violence, but we will stand firmly and lawfully against every attempt to undermine our democratic rights,” he added.
