Senator Shehu Buba Umar has challenged individuals accusing him of involvement in banditry, terrorism financing and kidnapping to present their evidence before the appropriate security authorities.
The Bauchi South senator, who is also the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate in the state, made the challenge on Monday in Bauchi, saying he had voluntarily submitted himself for investigation to clear his name.
Shehu Buba said he was prepared to be questioned and have his records examined by security agencies, insisting Nigerians should not be asked to believe him on his word alone.
“I will not ask Nigerians simply to take my word for it. That is precisely why I have submitted myself to the relevant security agencies,” he said.
He called on those behind the allegations to come forward with evidence, saying the truth should ultimately emerge through a professional investigation.
The senator said his decision followed previous legal efforts to address the allegations, including a petition submitted to the Nigeria Police Force in September 2025.
According to him, the petition resulted in criminal proceedings before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He also said his lawyers had provided security agencies with documents relating to the allegations, including a September 7, 2026 petition seeking Interpol intervention over one of the alleged perpetrators.
Shehu Buba explained that his previous engagements with security agencies were connected to his work on national security and efforts to tackle banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He alleged that some of those engagements were later distorted and used to create a false impression of links between him and criminal groups.
The senator said he was not seeking immunity from investigation despite being a serving senator.
“I have asked for no immunity from investigation. I seek no special protection. I ask only that the allegations be investigated professionally, comprehensively and fairly,” he said.
He urged his supporters to remain peaceful and refrain from attacking or threatening those making the allegations.
Shehu Buba said he would accept the outcome of a credible investigation and that anyone found to have deliberately fabricated and circulated false allegations should also face the law.
“My conscience is clear. I have nothing to hide. I have voluntarily submitted myself for investigation because the truth should not be afraid of scrutiny,” he said.
