Ogun APC Guber: Hunye Challenges Adeola’s Candidacy In Court

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Abayomi Hunye, has challenged the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Hunye is challenging the process that produced Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the party’s governorship candidate.

The APC national leadership has, however, reaffirmed Adeola as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election as the legal battle continues at the Federal High Court.

Hunye, while dismissing reports that he had withdrawn from the race or reached an agreement with Adeola, said the matter remained before the court.

“People are thinking everything is concluded, but that impression needs to be corrected. That is the essence of why the public should know — we are still in Federal High Court, and until the verdict is given, nobody should claim authority as the candidate,” he said.

Reacting to a poster circulating online which suggested that he was still in the race without stating that the matter was before the court, Hunye said it was not intended to mislead the public.

He said he would make the necessary correction immediately.

Hunye also disclosed that he only learnt of his alleged suspension from a newspaper report, saying he had not received any official communication from the party on the matter.

According to him, the party imposed a candidate on its members without following due process. He, however, said he remained willing to work with the party during the campaign.

The dispute comes amid reported disagreements among some APC members and political groups in the state.

Some members and political observers have linked the disagreements to factions associated with former governors Ibikunle Amosun and Gbenga Daniel, who are said to be unhappy with the way the party has been managed under Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The development has also drawn reactions from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

A former chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Wale Adedayo, said the APC had lost touch with voters in the state and predicted that the party would be voted out in 2027.

Adedayo also said the PDP could benefit from what he described as shifting political loyalties across Ogun State.

The APC, however, maintains that it remains the dominant political party in the state.

Party loyalists have insisted that Adeola’s candidacy has been validated and forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while arguing that the PDP no longer enjoys the level of support it once had in Ogun.

With the governorship ticket still being contested in court, attention is now focused on the outcome of the legal battle and its implications for the APC ahead of the 2027 election.
